Card Values & Point Calculation
Understanding point values is fundamental to baccarat strategy. In baccarat, cards 2-9 have face value, 10s and face cards (King, Queen, Jack) count as zero points, and Aces count as one point. The total hand value is calculated by adding all card values and taking only the last digit. For example, a hand totaling 15 points is counted as 5. This unique calculation system means hands are valued from 0 to 9, creating the mathematical foundation for all baccarat variations.
When the initial two-card hand totals 6 or higher for the Banker, or 6 or higher for the Player, the hand stands without receiving additional cards. This strict rule system eliminates player decision-making in standard baccarat, differentiating it from games like blackjack where players make strategic choices.
